Thank you everyone so much for all your donations! We were able to collect 898 books for children in the grades of kindergarten- high school, 2 bookshelves, 100 pencil cases filled with school supplies, and school book bags. For our first stop, we visited Camillus House (Mother of Seton Village) family homeless shelter in Homestead, FL, on March 2, 2019, a facility that provides permanent housing for families and children. Camillus House provides a full array of supportive services, including case management, job development, basic life skills training, educational opportunities, child care, and much more. It provides its residents the ability to live independently; drug and alcohol free; and encourages compliance with program participation, including attaining employment/income. This location is currently housing 105 kids, ranging from the age of a month old and 21 years old.
We would like to thank Kimmy Woods, Family Service Coordinator for this location, for having us and for everything you do for these children and families. It was a pleasure meeting and speaking to such an inspiring and strong woman, with such a passion for helping these children. For all of you who donated, know that you played a great role in a project that had a big impact, Kimmy described the little library “as an answered prayer and a true blessing.”
For those of you who were not able to donate this time, save your books! We will be collecting again in the near future for another event!
We hope this little library serves as a ladder that allows these children to climb and overcome whatever wall or adversary they may face. That reading may be their friend, escape, and the thing that makes them fall in love with learning and education. That they may empower themselves with an education and big goals and dreams, and "use that education to build a country worthy of [their] boundless promise." - Michelle Obama
After all that is the goal of Read Hope Achieve and all of our projects! :)
