ABOUT US
BRIDGING THE GAP BETWEEN POVERTY AND LITERACY #ONEBOOKATATIME
DID YOU KNOW? According to the US Department of Education and the National Institute of Literacy, approximately 32 million adults in the United States can't read, with 43% of those with the lowest literacy skills living in poverty. Furthermore, 85% of juvenile offenders rate as functionally or marginally illiterate.
READ HOPE ACHIEVE INC. is a non- profit organization that started as a personal small project by Roselyn Castillo in 2013, that has since expanded with Emily Moreno and Katelyn Garciga, as they all attend the University of Florida and more recently with Yamir Leal, a student at Florida International University. At READ HOPE ACHIEVE INC., wellbeing is at the forefront of what we’re working together towards.
On June 30, 2020, we became an official non- profit organization in the State of Florida, with Roselyn Castillo serving as President, Katelyn Garciga and Emily Moreno serving as Vice President, and Yamir Leal serving as Treasurer.Â
Our mission is to sever the seemingly inevitable link between poverty and illiteracy and provide children from impoverished communities with the opportunity and resources to read and become educated. We hope to cure this plague of illiteracy that is persistently present and keeps the people it infects in a constant poverty-stricken cycle. Our programs and activities are designed to be a catalyst that helps community members reach their educational and learning goals and fulfill their unique potential. Learn more about the positive impact we have and join us in bringing about positive change!
